Upward curling of young leaf margins
Young apical leaves show upward curling of margins. Leaves appear cupped or boat-shaped. Veins on the underside may appear slightly swollen.
Vein thickening and enations
Leaf veins become thickened (vein swelling) and darkened. Small leaf-like outgrowths (enations) develop on the underside of leaves along veins. This is the hallmark diagnostic feature of CLCuD.
Stunting and boll reduction
Severely infected plants are stunted with reduced internode length. Boll formation is drastically reduced. Plants infected early may produce no harvestable bolls. Late-season infection has less yield impact.
