V-shaped yellow lesions at leaf margins
Characteristic V-shaped (chevron) yellow to brown lesions develop from the leaf margin inward, with the point of the V directed toward the midrib. Veins within the lesion darken.
Blackened veins and systemic spread
Veins within and beyond lesions turn black from bacterial colonization of the xylem. Cut stems show a ring of blackened vascular bundles. Bacterial ooze may be visible on cut surfaces.
Head rot and plant collapse
In heading brassicas, bacteria reach the head causing internal black discoloration and soft rot (often invaded by secondary soft-rot bacteria). Entire heads become unmarketable. Plants may collapse in severe cases.
