Small brown specks on leaves
Tiny brown or dark green spots (1-3 mm) appear on leaf blades, often with a water-soaked appearance initially.
Diamond-shaped gray lesions
Spots enlarge into characteristic diamond or spindle-shaped lesions (1-2 cm long) with gray centers, brown borders, and yellow halos. Lesions may coalesce.
Neck rot and panicle death
Infection at the panicle neck node causes neck blast — the neck turns brown-black and breaks. Entire panicle turns white (whiteheads) with empty grains. Can cause 50-100% yield loss.
