Expanding elliptical lesions with acervuli
Lesions enlarge to 1-4 cm, becoming elliptical. Small dark fruiting bodies (acervuli) are visible in the center of older lesions, often with setae (dark hair-like structures) visible with a hand lens.
Panicle rot and grain mold
Panicle infection causes reddish discoloration of rachis branches and grain mold. Infected grains are discolored, shrunken, and may be covered with fungal growth. Stalk rot phase causes lodging.
